Sorry folks; no new posts for the next few days, ’cause I’m off to the Pfizer Poster Competition in Canterbury. Much chemistry will be discussed, along with a little eating and probably quite a lot of drinking. Do say “hi” if you are also attending, but otherwise, I’ll have a new post later this week
Here’s a gratuitous photo of Pfizer’s Sandwich site…

P.S. don’t miss this ACIEE by Forsyth – this might be a really nice synthesis!

Nice indeed.
Go Bucks!

Tot. Syn., Have a nice trip!
BTW, any story about the failed trial of Torcetrapib,”one of the most important compounds of our generation”?
Palladium (II) has been known to induce the same kind of reaction (spirocyclization of an alkyne diol). See a paper by Trost and Horne for a nice total synthesis using this concept. Still, a nice application of this reaction by Forsyth.
I’m back, as you’ll have noticed from the new post… so much new stuff to read after only two days out of the lab! Thanks to everyone that read my poster and refrained from savaging me, and to Pfizer for a great event. And for the (runners-up) prize
So who won the first prize?
Good for you, Tot. Syn. I bet it’s time to poll now.
I’d be guessing that one of SVLs students won it?
I’d be guessing that one of Steve Ley’s students won it?
Actually, it was one of Richard Taylor’s students. Maybe Steve’s students get the prize once he is the academic judge. We’ll have to wait until 2007.
Well done again, Jan!!! I’ll out you as the winner! By the way, pass on my best to James and Chris from RJKT’s group…
